Thank you to forward the mail on homosex that I think movies are playing an important role in increasing the concept of the homosex but among average Indians, it's not easily possible to set up.  Anyway let us go through in brief about the homosexuality in mirror of the social configuration of India:

Homosexuality isn't a new practice in India. Images on temple walls, sacred narratives and ancient law books, religious scriptures indicate that homosexual activities and now­ the homosexuals in ancient India affect modern-day attitudes in Indian culture. We must know ancient sources that censure homosexual conduct which institutionalized the caste system and approved the subservience of women.

All homosexuals  think that discharge into a condom is not enough and better to drop into a human's hole since they're lustful by nature while on the contrary, these men never ask his wife to perform non-reproductive sex acts, such as oral or anal sex knowing that it's shameful, and similarly the act of penetration is the definer of manliness.  

Homosex (Gandugiri, a street language)  in India was inherited before partition and now growing day by day through Indian movies to challenge the laws which criminalize homosexuality.  A small but growing movement of people whose sense of personal identity is separate from that of their family with the intention of sexual identity in so-called modern cities like Mumbai, Delhi etc... Many of these may call themselves gay men so these identities are arising with the growth of metropolitan cultures where the sense of individuality or personal privacy is the main reason, the social contexts gender segregation, easy accessibility to male sexual partners and delay in marriage. 

The nuclear family lifestyles, education and the power of the English-speaking people to access Western literature just to make more choices about their lives. Mostly people from these backgrounds who socialize & discuss in English, issues of sexual identities remains to be seen whether these emerging identities will reflect Western constructions and whether those who adopt these identities will attempt to live these out within Indian cultures, or whether differing identities will be constructed.

The survey on "AIDS Analysis Asia" in India & Pakistan that came with nearly 70% truck drivers like sex with males while the remaining are fond of Bazaru female prostitutes  and thus this anecdotal evidences show that in other countries of the sub-continent, similar levels of male to male sexual behaviors exist as part of a broader sexual repertoire.  Indian men do not have to strongly assert their masculine characteristics in order to be thought of as gay since their social position is effected. In the Indian state of Orissa, most of the married male don't do sex with their wives and the more confusing factor is that they all have children since they say "We do duty with our wife" is a common expression in Orrisa.

Irrfan Khan has done it once. Essaying a character with ambiguous (or maybe not so ambiguous) proclivities, that is. Or in simple words, playing the role of a homosexual in Ashish Balram Nagpal's Adhura. And he is going to do it again – in Mira Nair's yet untitled project on HIV/AIDS co starring Sameera Reddy and Shiney Ahuja.

And then there's KJo's forthcoming film Dostana starring John and Abhishek who will pose as a gay couple in the movie. If John is to be believed, it's the chemistry between them two that's going to be the biggest attraction in the film.

In a situation like this, a question pops in our mind…is India finally warming up to the idea of same sex couples? Or is it still just a source of comic relief? Here's some Bolly flicks which have tried to explore the genre of gay love, in serious and not-so-serious tones.

The recently released Madhur Bhandarkar film on the ups and downs of the fashion world had men who were mostly gay. While Samir Soni played the role of a fashion designer who was very seriously in love with a man, Harsh Chhaya's portrayal of a gay man had more to do with providing the otherwise serious film with some light, funny moments.

In the film, we saw a serious gay relationship, that of Samir Soni which put forth the problems faced by such a couple in the Indian society. We saw how the guy's mother had problems facing the society because her son was unmarried. So finally, Samir Soni ends up marrying his good friend Mugdha Godse to satisfy his mother and quieten the society in general. Despite the presence of this serious subplot around Gay love in the film, the major chunk of Gay men portrayed in the film, were there simply for comic relief.

In Karan Johar's Dostana, John and Abhishek pose as a gay couple. The concept can be traced back to yet another Karan Johar film Kal Ho Naa Ho. (Why only KJo? Makes one wonder...) A funny take on gay love, this movie made Shah Rukh Khan and Saif Ali Khan's romantic chemistry an overnight hit. Though the 'romantic' liaison was added purely as a comic element in the film, the gay angle was nonetheless a first in a big budget 'family' entertainer.

Saif and Shah Rukh soon became the gods of 'gaydom'. Their funny camaraderie was applauded over and over again in award functions and other Bollywood events. If nothing else, the film did establish 'homosexuality' as a subject in mainstream Hindi cinema.

If KJo's film did a funny take on homosexuality in an otherwise serious film, Farhan Akhtar and Ritesh Sidhwani's production Honeymoon Travels did quite the opposite. A film which was meant to be funny (though some have serious questions about its fun factor) depicted the serious attraction between two men on a cruise.

Vikram Chatwal played Bunty, an NRI and a homosexual. Under parental pressure, he comes to meet Sandhya Mridul (Madhu), a complete 'liberated' woman with a sad romantic past. In spite of his different sexual orientation the couple decides to get married on the basis of their friendship (somewhat similar to the relationship portrayed by Madhur Bhandarkar in Fashion).

On the other hand Vicky played by Karan Khanna, is a newly wedded man and a closet gay. On the cruise he develops feelings for Bunty and is not able to express it because of his loving wife Pinky played by Ameesha Patel. Though the love just ends there in the film, homosexuality as a concept in Hindi films had by now found a foothold.

Though today India devours these films, it was not always so. Deepa Mehta's Fire starring Shabana Azmi and Nandita Das explored the homosexual relationship between the two women and was the first to bring homosexuality to Indian films.

Loosely based on Ismat Chugtai's Lihaaf, it is the story of two daughters-in-law who after being ignored by their respective husbands, emotionally as well as sexually, start depending on each other for both. The film rightfully titled Fire, fired many a controversy and also one theatre in Delhi and another in Bombay on its release.

The film was a landmark in itself. And we're not just talking about the storyline. Homosexuality which till now was just a concept to be written about and a subject for writers, all of a sudden was put forth on the big screen.

Once Fire had established gay love, filmmakers could not stop themselves from exploring it on their own. And thus came this BIG mistake in Indian cinematic history.

Girlfriend was a film that talked about the love between Eesha Koppikhar and Amrita Arora. The movie also had Ashish Chaudhury as Amrita's boyfriend. The movie was such a royal mess; it was no surprise at all that it flopped.

And in case you are wondering why no trouble occurred over this film, well the answer's pretty simple…hardly anybody went to watch it in the first place. The film did not need theatres to be burnt or be pulled off the screen.

However, with gay love fast becoming a major genre in Indian films...one wonders whether maybe now the country is ready for a FIRE part II.
